One thing that never comes up in my official bio is my lifelong love of music.  I definitely have a ‘soundtrack’ to my life, and I thought I would share it here.

If you are someone I’ve never met or talked to, the list below represents a great starting point for any conversation with me; my personal diversity really comes out in the music I love.

On the other hand, if we went to school together, hung out together, or had any other type of social relationship, then there’s probably at least one or two songs on this list that will take you back to an earlier point in our lives.

I’ve just listed a few lyrics I like from each song.  On top of being all-time favorites, three of the songs below I consider to be personal anthems; extra credit if you can figure that out.

“Get me out, into the nighttime, four walls won’t hold me tonight/If this town is just an apple, then let me take a bite…” – MJ, Human Nature

“In 1995, you’ll twist to this, as you raise your fist to the music/United we stand, divided we fall, but together we can stand tall/Brothers that try to work it out, they get mad/Revolt, revise, realize, They’re super bad/Small chance a smart brother’s gonna be a victim of his own circumstance” – Public Enemy, Brothers Gonna Work It Out

“And then I go to see my brother, and I say brother, help me please/But he winds up, knocking me, back down on my knees” - Sam Cooke, A Change Is Gonna Come

“You see, war is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate…” – Marvin Gaye, What’s Going On

“I have no sympathy for those afraid of mystery/Come get with me I promise passion and ecstacy…” – 2Pac, How Do You Want It?

“My only fear of death is reincarnation/Heart of a soldier with a brain to teach your whole nation, and feelin no more pain” – 2Pac, No More Pain

“If you should ever leave me, though life would still go on, believe me/The world could show nothing to me, so what good would living do me?” – God Only Knows, Beach Boys

“And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love, you make…” – The Beatles, The End
