The Love Below

I’m excited!

Last night, I was a witness to the engagement of a couple I’ve known for a short while.  I knew ahead of time it was going to happen, and it came up in a conversation I had earlier in the day with one of my aces.  It became a natural segway for us to talk about love in general, and where we both stand.  As the conversation flowed, he told me the story of when he knew his wife was a ‘keeper’.  Not the ‘I knew I was going to marry this woman’ story; the ‘I’m going to invest time and energy into this person’ story.  I don’t even think my buddy realized it, but as he was reliving the memory, he just started raving about his wife!  And man, his passion was contagious!  I’m smiling from ear to ear again just thinking about how in love he is!

(Quick aside and P.S.A. for my readers who aren’t there yet: I know one saying that never really goes out of style is ‘nice guys (and girls) finish last.’  I say Bullshit.  Now… there is a decent chance that you will have to put in some work to figure out the difference between a) the ones who tolerate having you around but won’t really miss you until/unless you leave them, and b) the ones who light up like a Christmas tree (timely pun intended) when they know you’re involved.  The struggle is real but I’m constantly a witness to enough healthy relationships and marriages to know it’s far from impossible to have one.  Come to think of it, I personally can’t remember the last time I’ve heard ‘nice guys finish last’, which you can interpret in any number of ways.  I know how I’m interpreting it.  Moving on…)

I have another wedding coming up next week.  It’s just LoveFest 2012 among my people right now I suppose.  But few things make me as happy as seeing the people I care about being happy (if you couldn’t tell).  It’s what I want for all of them, and it’s what all of them want for me.  Sometimes, you have to step back and appreciate all the good things in your life, and the lives of the people who care about you.

This is one of those times.  Have a good week!
