Grace

A good friend of mine from my college days is getting married this week, ‘The Captain’.  Most of the guys I rolled with in college will be traveling this week for the wedding.  I talked to the Captain tonight, and as always, it took around 1.3 seconds for us to get each other laughing.  (My newest joke is that since he’s the Captain, and we already have a Colonel and a Sargeant in our crew, I will now refer to myself as ‘the Private.’  That’s neither here nor there.)

Anyway I caught up with a few of my college guys this week for various reasons, and we all seem to have reached a similar conclusion about life: ‘but for the Grace of God…’  Sometimes it’s in our families or personal lives, sometimes it’s in our professional choices, but now that all of us have been part of ‘the real world’ for some time, we’ve been able to spot patterns or ‘cycles’ in the way life works.  You can’t go back and change the mistakes you made in the past (and we all made them), but when you’re placed in a similar situation (which at least for me I’m starting to recognize), you remember your mistake and you make a different choice.  I do recognize there are others who keep making the same mistakes over and over again, but at least among the people I tend to surround myself with, we only need to get burnt once.

Now if you don’t believe in faith or fate, ‘but for the grace of God’ for you just translates into ‘luck’.  I believe in karma more than I believe in luck, but to each his own.  My life is far from perfect right now, but for the Grace of God things could be so much worse.  I’m not bulletproof, but I’m slowly climbing out of yet another bad situation I put myself into.  ‘Luck’ may play a role, but as laid back as I am, I don’t believe in letting life ‘happen’ to me.  I work for the things I want and by the Grace of God, things are going well right now.

Okay, enough rambling by yours truly.  I have something I look forward to sharing at the end of the week.  Stay tuned…
