In a World is one of the films this year that most feels like an ‘indie film’ to me.  Set in a world (no pun intended) I know a little about, the story takes place in the shadow of Don LaFontane, the best known voiceover artist in Hollywood lore.  Lake Bell is our protagonist, the daughter of a successful voiceover artist who’s trying to make a name for herself in the industry.

Her main competition in the film is played by the always funny Dan Marino, who happens to be the protege of her father.  The triangle between those three characters drives the story of the film.  The heart of the film is what a young woman has to go through personally and professionally when trying to break in/break through in an extremely male dominated field.  It’s a theme you’ve seen before but definitely not in this world.

Cute little film.
